SheaMoisture's African Black Soap is Apparently Ruining People's Skin

Apparently, SheaMoisture’s African Black Soap collection is ruining people’s skin. Which is a bit ironic since Shea Moisture is a personal care company.

Numerous people have taken their time on social media to address the problem with Shea Moisture’s African Black Soap. They state that the soap caused breakouts, burns, and a tingling sensation.

SheaMoisture states that they have an African base, and they also add in “natural” ingredients. But what really concerns me is that they add in iron oxide. Since Iron oxide is naturally made on Earth, it contains a high level of metal. This means it has to be synthetically made when applied into cosmetics, unless they do it the “natural” way and add it to the product with unsafe traces of metal.

One of the people who had a hard time using the product is Sheniqua, a SheaMoisture user feels tingles whenever she uses the mud face mask. The bar soap on the other hand stings and burns whenever she uses it. But in all fairness, she hasn’t continued using the product to see if it actually does what it says. Above all of this, she says that the only thing that works in the collection is the mud face mask.

However it’s not common for irritation in some people when they use a new product. When trying out a new product, you may experience breakouts, irritation and other things. It's because whenever your body is introduced with something it's not used to, it's going to react. Even if it’s by some big name company like Chanel or Estelle Lauder and you feel safe about it, your face probably isn’t. Your skin doesn’t specialize in brands, just ingredients.

For me, when I tried a new facial wash called Naive, I felt a burning sensation on my cheeks after every wash. However, everything was great after a week’s usage. My acne was gone and my face was incredibly clear.

At the end of the day, every skin type is different and don't automatically fall for a celebrity endorsement. The product may or may not work for you and that's fine. You just gotta find something that works for you and makes you feel great. The only advice I could give anyone is: If you don't feel comfortable with something or if you are questioning a product, do not be afraid or embarrass to ask questions or seek medical advice.

And don't forget to check for ingredients!
